To Catch A Gar:

A chronicle of my angling efforts

2025 March 28, Friday:

Last Summer, I decided I would try to catch a gar. I have enjoyed fishing for bass, catfish, and panfish for many years, and I thought gar would be a fun challenge.
Well, I fished all Summer with no success. I caught plenty of other fish. Close, but no ci-gar :)
I did my homework during the cold months, and this Summer, yet again, I'll be embarking on the same crusade. I have identified a few likely spots on satellite mapping software. I've stocked up on the right kinds of tackle. I renewed my fishing license. I'm ready. But then, that's what I said last Summer too. We'll see what happens!

2025 March 29, Saturday:

After a short road trip to dig my rods out of storage, I decided to go down to the river for just a while this evening, with no particular expectations. It's a good thing I didn't have any particular expectations! Not a single nibble all evening (except from the mosquitoes :( They were definitely nibbling). I tried out a couple of different rigs (zero, Carolina, bobber-and-treble), using hot dogs for bait. Nothing. It was still a fun time enjoying God's creation!
